The Transgender Movement in America is one that, for most people, is puzzling. While it may be in vogue to get on board with physically or chemically adjusting the body to fit how one feels, the honest among us have a difficult time understanding how this has become, and why it has become, normal. I regularly have the opportunity to talk to people much smarter than I, something I recommend, who spend a lot of their time every day working to answer these questions. And still, having talked with some of the best and brightest in this area, I have not received a satisfactory answer to the question “Why?”.
Arguments around theology, politics, control, and money still, at least for me, leave the REASON we are all supposed to get behind the mutilation and further traumatizing of children and adults unanswered. I guess the simple answer is that sin (rebellion against God and His established order) always causes brokenness, confusion, hopelessness, despair and an irrational, violent attempt at replacing Him with self. This is the condition of fallen man and has always manifested itself in one way or another-and today that one way is to demand we support the transgender movement.
While I have many, many issues with the transgender movement, both as a Christian and a somewhat rational human, there is a heartbreaking message from those who support it that nurtures the already existing lie believed by those who will do ANYTHING to be someone other than who they are.
The message?
“You are a mistake.”
No one says this out loud, of course. But that’s the message! “You are a mistake. You were born in the wrong body, with the wrong personality and because God messed up so badly, you are the only one who can fix it!”
“So, instead of dealing with the actual issues of past hurt, trauma, confusion, an improper view of self, sin and God, we will empower you to fix the mistake. Until you naturally realize that the real mistake was ‘transitioning’, then you’re on your own.”
All other agendas aside, this message further damages already broken people who are in desperate need of Truth, Perspective, and Help.
The truth:
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace,
The perspective:
Psalm 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
The help:
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
You are not a mistake.
In spite of how you feel.
Regardless of what others say.
Despite the lies believed by culture.
You are not a mistake. You were uniquely created by a God who loved you so much that He did what only He could do to restore you into relationship with Him.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
